Pre-Installation Checklist:
Inspect the Shaft and Housing:

Ensure the shaft is clean and free from rust, dirt, or debris.
Inspect the bearing housing for any signs of damage or wear.
Make sure the shaft diameter and the housing bore are appropriate for the selected Cooper split bearing size.

Check Bearing Compatibility:
Verify that the Cooper split bearing you have is the correct size for your application. Match the bearing to the shaft diameter, housing bore, and load requirements.

Clean and Lubricate:
Clean both the shaft and the bearing housing with a clean cloth.
Apply an appropriate lubricant to both the shaft and the bearing’s inner race (if recommended by the manufacturer).

Installation Steps:
1: Prepare the Bearing Halves
Split bearings consist of two halves: an inner half (fitted around the shaft) and an outer half (fitted into the housing).
Ensure that the inner bearing half is positioned in the correct orientation on the shaft. The marking on the bearing should face outward (toward the housing), unless otherwise specified.

2: Position the Inner Bearing Half on the Shaft
Slide the inner half of the bearing over the shaft. Ensure that it fits snugly and evenly around the shaft. For larger bearings, it might be necessary to use a soft hammer or a bearing installation tool to gently tap it into place.
If the bearing has any locating features (such as a set screw or key), make sure they align correctly.

3: Install the Outer Bearing Half into the Housing
Carefully place the outer bearing half into the bearing housing. Ensure it fits properly and that the two halves of the bearing align with each other.
Make sure there is no debris or dirt between the housing and bearing during this step.

4: Align and Attach the Bearing Halves
Once the inner and outer bearing halves are positioned correctly, align the two halves.
Tighten the bolts or fasteners holding the outer bearing half to the housing. Typically, these fasteners should be tightened in a cross-pattern to ensure even pressure distribution.
If the bearing has locating pins or other alignment features, ensure that they are engaged properly to prevent any misalignment.

5: Secure the Inner Bearing Half
For split bearings with a set screw or locking collar, use the appropriate tool to tighten the set screw against the shaft. This will prevent the inner bearing half from shifting or moving.
Ensure that the set screw is tightened to the recommended torque value provided by the manufacturer.

6: Check the Alignment and Rotation
After installation, rotate the shaft manually to ensure the bearing is properly aligned and running smoothly.
Make sure there are no unusual noises, vibrations, or friction that might indicate misalignment or improper installation.

7: Apply Lubrication (if required)
If the bearing design requires lubrication, apply the recommended grease or oil to the bearing as specified by the manufacturer.
Verify the proper lubrication levels before starting the machine.

8: Perform Final Checks
Double-check all fasteners for tightness.
Ensure there is no play or movement in the bearing assembly.
Check for any unusual gaps or misalignment between the bearing halves.

Post-Installation:
Once the Cooper split bearing is installed, monitor the system during initial startup for signs of excessive noise, heat, or vibration. This may indicate issues with the bearing installation, lubrication, or alignment.
Perform regular maintenance checks as per the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure the bearing remains in optimal condition.
